This was the third 2012 Christmas present, code name “Kestrel.” The hat itself was a simple basic hat.  I liked the even hem the pattern has by stitching the cast on edge inside the hat and think I will use this in some of my future hats.  It gives a nice double thickness for the brim along with the clean edge.  I made the tongue and ears and then stitched them to the hat but I picked up the stitches directly from the hat for the eyes.  I found it much easier and cleaner with the eyes.

I have to admit that this hat really freaked me out for weeks.  I had it sitting out on the table and those eyes … I swear they would follow me around the room.  It’s nice and cute when someone’s wearing it but wow can it be creepy when it’s just sitting there after awhile.

The gift was for my niece Sara, code name Rattlesnake, and she was very excited.  She wore it all day long.  I found out she has a bigger head than me!  I was worried the hat would be to big but instead it was a little on the small side.  I thought it was only her brother with the big head.
